Honorable Mention:  Milton, Walton, Cedartown, Campbell, Rising Starr, Walton, Monroe, Piney Grove, Clifton Ridge, Kendrick,  Miller Grove – Dekalb Co

This has been one of the best years for middle school football as anyone can win it.  Buford was rolling along until the injury to one of their QBs.  Tristan Gabrels has done a great job keeping the Wolves undefeated as he has made plays when he has been asked.  KJ Bolden from Buford has played outstanding as he has put his name on the Turman Award watchlist.  If we have to pick a favorite right now to win the B2C State Championship it has to be Parkview. Buford is really good but they will have their hands full against Parkview if they meet up in the GFL Championship.  Parkview is the most complete team in the state. They can score on offense running or throwing.  On defense they put opposing offense in third and long. Thats when their team speed on defense really shows.  Crawford Long won back to back championship in the APS and they won it in convincing fashion. CJ Penn was voted as the MVP in the league. BABB won the Clay Co Championship. At the beginning of the season no one had BABB to win it but it goes to show, that’s why championships are won on the grass.  Cartersville defeated Calhoun, both teams have gone back and forth winning their county championship.  Not surprising both teams help produce great high school teams as well.  East Paulding has a chance to come out of the GMSAA as they have been the most dominant team in the league. The long shot in GMSAA 7A division is Walton. They have arguably a top 10 player in the state at QB with Jeremy Hecklinski. Richards Middle in Columbus has been the best team in their county all season. They start to make their road to the state championship tonight if they can win their semifinal game against Eddy.  If they win their county championship they have a chance to be the first team out of Columbus to receive a bid to play in the B2C State Championship.

A little over a month removed from the Frank Ski Bowl, here is what it looks like. RarebReed is the new #1 team in the state. They have played at a high level all season long. EJ Colson is just that good.  GA Gators did lose a game out of state but still considered the favorite to win the Youth Bowl.  They have the best offensive line in the state as they are better built for postseason play.  Grayson is a similar team to GA Gators. Big offensive line, RBs that hit the hole and a physical scheme. DYJ also plays power football as they could throw a monkey wrench in everyones plan.  North Atlanta, Gresham and East Metro Steelers all control their own destiny. If they win their league then they are more than likely in the Youth Bowl.  MLC Hurricanes are very good, they have one of the best athletes in the state with Montez Redding.  Jefferson Todd is undefeated, the same thing can be said for Jefferson Dollar. They will meet up in the championship.  It should be a good game as both coaches have their team playing at a high level.  Douglasville has won 6 in a row after starting the season 0-2.  As of right now they should win the NWGYFL.  Warner Robin Bandits are a dark hoarse but they have a team that could possibly get a bid if certain things play out on the field.

Honorable Mention: Roswell, Douglasville, North Paulding, DYJ

At #1 the Welcome All (Dream Team) is in cruise control right now.  Offensively and Defensively they are clicking on all cylinders. Julian Lewis has taken the next step to becoming even better at the QB position. A lot of that credit goes to his QB Coach Ron Veal.  Defensively they are a monster of a unit to deal with. North Henry has played well all season.  With only one real loss on their resume within the state of Georgia. Offensively they have gotten better. What happens this year when they get in B2C, will they make another run for the title?  Duluth comes in at #2. They have the two best defensive players in the state with LB Tyler Atkins and DL Daverin Geralds, both are genetic freaks.  Parkview gets RB Bryce Green back from injury.  Green along with power back Chris Nunn in the backfield should help their chances on the road to the B2C.  This has been a great year for Coach DJ from Camo, this time last year his team was not playing up to expectations. This year he has turned it around and has put his team in the top 3 and has also put himself up there for the Coach of the Year.  Camo has two other teams that are really good in their league that could walk away with the automatic bid. DYJ and GA Falcons both will get their opportunity but first they must decide things on the field in the semifinals of their league.  Jackson, Sequoyah, GA Aggression Gold and Sandy Creek all control their fate. If they can win out then they will be in the B2C.  A couple of weeks ago Smyrna would have been a lock to get the automatic bid into B2C.  Within this time frame they had the lost to Welcome All and a couple of very competitive games with Douglasville.  With the way Douglasville has been playing it isn’t a guarantee that the NWGYFL will be won by Smyrna. It is hard to beat a good team three times in a season but Coach Cowvins is one of the best coaches at his age group and he will have his guys ready to play.  Milford and GA Rattlers look like they are in a two team race in their league.  Milford has one of the best playmakers in the state in JJ Campbell. GA Rattlers has one of the best defense players in the state in Sincere at LB. We expect both players to play well but only one team will get the automatic bid out of their league.

In one of the most heated debates ever in B2C History the East Metro Steelers sit on top of the mountain at the #1 spot despite not having the most first place votes.  Undefeated in their league the East Metro Steelers are built for postseason play. They run the ball downhill and they play really good defense. They arguably have one of the best defensive players in the state. Tucker comes in at #2. They are the best team in the most competitive age group for any league besides GFL 8th Grade Division.  Right behind them are two other teams from the YFA with Falcons United who is the only team to give Tucker a loss and North Henry who besides they loss to Tucker and a bad loss to CD should be in the thick of things at the end.  Coach Spin from North Henry has put himself in the conversation for Coach of the Year.  Old National and Fairburn will settle things on the field this weekend in a makeup game that was canceled earlier in the season. Both teams are legit.  If Duluth can keep winning they will find themselves back in B2C. Their backfield is dangerous and can score from anywhere on the field.  South Columbus hasn’t given up a touchdown in their league all season.  They should be able to win their league. Chattanooga and Rome both share a win over each other but Romes lost to Sharpsburg early in the season stands out on their resume.  The Atlanta Vikings are a dark hoarse. If they make it into the B2C they will at least make the semifinals. This is another team that is built for postseason play.

Honorable Mention: Henderson, Brookwood, Calhoun, North Clayton, Creekview, Milton, Cedartown, Campbell, Rising Starr, Monroe, Piney Grove, Clifton Ridge, Centennial

Richards handled their business in their county championship by beating Harris Co 32-14.  It was complete domination from the opening kickoff.  Walton has been the big surprise of the postseason. Jeremy Hecklinski is trying to become the first Walton player ever to win the Turman Award for the best overall player.  He has his team one step closer to winning the GMSAA.  Parkview and Buford play this weekend. Winner of the game will get the bid for the B2C State Championship. Both teams are very good.  Parkview is pure speed and Buford has built their team to be physical. For Parkview to win they have to create space through formations so their speed guys can have room. For Buford to win then they have to play the “Buford Way”. Physical smash mouth football with a couple of dump passes to the Tight End. It’s going to be a great one.  East Paulding is the best team no one has heard about but they are two wins away from a birth in the B2C State Championship. Over the past couple of years they have been a consistent winner. Not too many teams have come through the GMSAA 6A and accomplished what this team has.

Douglasville and Madison are the hottest teams in the state right now. After starting the season 0-2 Douglasville has have won 7 games straight.  Madison went into the playoffs with four losses and have made it to the NGYFA Championship by beating two teams that had previously beaten them during the regular season.  North Atlanta Giants get one more crack at the GA Gators. More than likely the winner gets the bid to Youth Bowl. Rarebreed has a very competitive Gresham Park in the YFA Championship.  Rarebreed are playing at a very high level and with QB EJ Colson who can do it all, they are going to be hard to beat. Now it’s a race for #1. GA Gators have played the better competition. Rarebreed hasn’t lost all year and the Gators only loss came to an out of state team.  If GA Gators win big against North Atlanta then what will the voters say. With one vote separating the two teams it will be interesting to see how these championship games go to see who will be the #1 team headed into the post league play. Grayson survived a scare against Peachtree Ridge winning a close one to move on to the GFL Championship against Collins Hill.

Frank Ski Youth Bowl is on December 15, 2019 at Grady Stadium

B2C State Championship is December 3rd – December 8th

Honorable Mention: McEachern, Douglasville,  Jackson, Buford

Championship week for some teams around the state of GA.  Welcome All AKA DreamTeam are playing their rivals in North Henry again. North Henry has to be able to put points on the board to really challenge Welcome All. If they aren’t able to do that then Welcome All has set a course to make history. As they are now chasing the Atlanta Ducks and Acworth Warriors to be considered an all time great team in the B2C era. Milford Warriors move up another spot after a hard fought win against the GA Rattlers, both teams will probably see each other again in the championship.  Last time Camo and the GA Falcons played it was a classic. Now its for the league championship. Whoever scores two touchdowns wins. This will be a classic throwback type of game. As both teams believe heavily in their offensive line.  Duluth and Parkview battle for the GFL Championship. Last time Duluth put on a defensive clinic. It will be interesting to see what happens in the rematch.  Sandy Creek has a chance to get their bid to the B2C Championship. They have played well all season, now they must finish the drill and win the Southern Youth.

What a difference a week makes in the most competitive age group in the state.  It seems like being ranked #1 is a curse. The #1, #2, #4 and #5 team all lost. Now Falcons United sit on top of the polls right along with Duluth who isn’t far behind in the voting.  Decatur Army and Tigers now hold their B2C bid in their own hands. Win and your in.  East Paulding is playing at a high level, the same thing can be said for McEachern. Both teams will possibly meet up in the CFL Championship. Rome and Chattanooga are headed on a collision course in the NWGYFL. Both teams have beaten each other during the regular season. Fairburn is sitting at #3 as they head into the MAYFL Playoffs. If they are able to hold off Old National again they will lock up their automatic bid.

Every year they get better and better but now with the emergence of position specific trainers and 7v7 players are ready to come into high school and contribute if they have the size and are able to play within the coaches scheme. Last year Malachi Singleton out of North Cobb was the #1 ranked player headed into high school.  The Quarterback not only contributed at the high school level but he played exceptionally well when he earned his opportunity to be on the field at North Cobb HS.  He would end his season by helping his team make it into the state playoffs and he would also pick up an offer from Georgia Tech.

Past #1 ranked players have been

  • Derrick Brown (Projected NFL Top Ten Draft Pick)

B2C Prime 90 Player Rankings (GA) | Class 2024 (11-90)

Every year they get better and better but now with the emergence of position specific trainers and 7v7 players are ready to come into high school and contribute if they have the size and are able to play within the coaches scheme. Last year Malachi Singleton out of North Cobb was the #1 ranked player headed into high school.  The Quarterback not only contributed at the high school level but he played exceptionally well when he earned his opportunity to be on the field at North Cobb HS.  He would end his season by helping his team make it into the state playoffs and he would also pick up an offer from Georgia Tech.

B2C Prime 90 Player Rankings (GA) | Class 2024

  • Davis Mills (Former #1 ranked QB in the Country in HS, Stanford QB.  Set Stanford record for most passing yards in a game)
  • Trevor Lawrence (National Champion – Clemson QB – Projected #1 Overall NFL Draft Pick)
  • Nolan Smith (Formerly #1 ranked HS Player in the Country, University of Georgia DE)
  • Harrison Bailey (#1 ranked QB in GA, Freshman at Tennessee)

Quarterback

Prentiss Noland leads the conversation when you talk about top quarterbacks in the state. The 6’2 pocket passer is the modern day Quarterback. He has won every award at the youth level including Player of the Year.  Recently Noland picked up a Kentucky offer, with that being said Noland will be attending Pace Academy and playing in a very QB friendly offense with a great QB coach. Jeremy Hecklinski can put on a show.  He can make any type of throw you want and he is scary accurate downfield.  He has a chance to contribute at his High School depending on how the QB battle goes.  Jeff Davis is polished.  He throws a great ball and can handle pressure.  He reminds you of a middle school version of MJ Morris at Carrolton. By the time it is his turn to take over the reigns he has a chance to be one the top quarterbacks in the country.  Reece Fountain will win at least one state championship playin in Rome.

Running Backs

Kam Davis is special, he posses everything you want in a Running Back.  When coaches watch him play in person or on film they can’t deny the talent he has.  He can run inside or outside. Make the make people miss or run them over.  Jehden Robinson is right there next to Kam Davis talent level.  At 5’10 Robinson is a load and when he hits the hole, he is hitting it at full speed.  Makari Bodiford is a bully when he runs the ball.  Very similar running back to Chris Rodriguez who is now at Kentucky. He has very good balance as he runs with exceptional pad level.

Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

Martavious Cullins is different. Very similar to Arik Gilbert out of Marietta. Not as fast but he has better hands and is better at the 50/50 ball which makes him a nightmare in the redone. At 6”3 205 he will grow into a bigger body at Rome. One thing about playing at Rome High School is that if you can play they are going to put you in position to be successful and Martavious can play.  This group has the potential to be special.  Joseph Stone is unreal in the slot.  As he grows he will be able to move outside and dominate. Montrell Christian is a nightmare out wide. He is a natural pass catcher and he can take the top off the defense as a vertical threat.  DeBron Gatling is the most polished.  A big WR for his age that will not be stopped when it comes to curls, slants, hitches and digs. By the time it is all said and done he could very well be the #1 WR in the state.

Offensive Line

Nicholas Reeves and Paul Harrington have all the potential in the world to become one of the top offensive lineman in the country. What will help them excel even more is the high school that they will be attending. Michai Boireau is another big body that will develop into a monster on the offensive line. Garret Landing down in Thomasville has already picked up an offer from GA Tech.  Sharvon Pierre will end up being the perfect size a tackle.  Already has long arms with very good feet.  Waltclaire Flynn is the #1 center in the state and top 5 in the country at his position.

Defensive Line

This is the best group of defensive linemen since the 2019 class.  Hevin Brown Shuler is monster. Omar White can get pressure at the 1 or 3 technique consistently.  When Kylan Fox is at Defensive End he has a chance to not only be one the best players at his position but one of the best players in the country. Antavious Elder is literally a walking nightmare for offensive tackles. Jordan Cardentey and Kendall Farmer are technicians at the point of contact.  Eddrick Houston is a great strong side end who can play well against the pass and the run.  Again this group has a chance to be the best defensive line group to come out of Georgia.

Linebackers

Thomas Summeral is a problem, high football IQ and a tackling machine.  Ashton “The Bloodline” Woods comes from…a great bloodline.  He will have all the tools to be elite at the high school level.  Justin Bonds plays with passion and pure violence. If he reaches 6’2 he will be the #1 linebacker in the state. Daneil Turpin is a thumper, he plays violent and fast.

Defensive Backs

Depending on what he wants to do at Buford KJ Bolden can be an amazing defensive back or he can be a great wide receiver. He has the highest football IQ grade since Harrison Bailey who is now a freshman QB at the University of Tennessee.  When the ball is in the air he will pick it off and possibly take it to the house. Very similar player to Richard Lecounte but taller.  TyQuavious Lamar has all the ability to come in right away his freshman year and compete for playing time at one of the best high school in the state of GA (Colquitt County). TyShun White is a shutdown corner. Great length, smart and tackles well in the open field.  Zion Ferguson is very fundamentally sound and he is always in position to make the interception.

Athletes

This is another year where there are athletic freaks all over the field that can impact the game from so many different positions. The first one up is Kemeon Collins.  Very similar to Smoke Monday who is at Auburn playing DB.  Cullins has a chance to be special at WR or DB. Depending how he continues to grow he might end up at defensive end. Bryce Clavon is special.  He is Mechole Hardmin, he has a future at QB if that’s. What he wants to play but he can also be a 4 star cornerback or wide receiver. Jaden Baugh is smooth and watching him run is like watching Todd Gurley run. 5’10 already, great feet and can go the distance but he is so talented that no coach is going to want to just leave him in the backfield.  He will line up all over the field.  CJ Penn, DaTwon Rouse and Jordan McCoy are all very similar. They might end up playing in the secondary or the slot. Either way all three of them can be game changers with the ball in their hands as they have something that you can’t coach and that SPEED. Montrez Redding is another player that can stay at QB if he works on it consistently with the way high school offenses are he would be productive but he can also be an all state selection at wide receiver or Safety.

Congrats to all the players that made the list.

Top 30 Dynasties in YFB in the B2C Era | 25-30

Over the years Born To Compete has been fortunate to feature some amazing teams in youth football. Some teams that we used to see as they were on the tail end of their youth football career when B2C had just started including the North Henry teams with Cam Sutton (PIT Steelers) and Welcome All with DeAndre Walker (TN Titans) did not make the list.  The teams listed either won multiple B2C Championships or were in the hunt for them. These 30 teams are considered the best in the B2C Era in Georgia

Rankings 21-24 comes out April 23, 2020

25. South Cobb Ravens/Welcome All Panthers

Won 1 B2C, runner up B2C, won the Frank Ski Youth Bowl.  One of the best teams that built their team over time.  Once they were able to beat the Atlanta Vikings at 10U they never looked back.  It also helped a lot when they added future All American Jaylen McCollough who is now starting at University of Tennessee

26. Fort Middle School

Fort has won 2 county championship in the past four years and have always been in the mix for the championship when they haven’t won it. Jamiel Johnson and JQ Hardaway have gone on to become big time recruits in high school.

27. Red Dawg Unit/Atlanta Bulldogs

Coach Reggie finally has a team that he has been able to put his stamp on. Back to Back B2C State Champs in Georgia.  They have a roster that can be contributors in high school when their time comes

28. Forsyth Paladins

They built their team from the ground up.  When they first started they lost the Atlanta Vikings by 40 points in a 20 minute running clock game.  Their final year at 10U they beat the Atlanta Vikings in a Overtime Classic for the B2C State Championship.  Their players had a winning impact at the next level as Hunter Hawk helped Holy Innocents have one of the best years ever and Sam Hines was the MVP of the State Championship Game with Wheeler upset over Grayson.

29. North Clayton/Riverdale Blackhawks

This might have been one of the most talented teams never to win the B2C or Frank Ski.  Always in the mix at the end. They had multiple runner up endings. Zerrick Cooper, Charles Wiley, MJ Walker (Basketball), Kindle Vildor and Kali James all have had a impact at the college level.

30. Alpharetta Eagles/Johns Creek

Won a state championship then they became the John Creek Gladiators and had a great season as a runner up.  Team produced three Army All Americans in Steele Chambers, Chris Hinton and Myles Hinton.  Grant Summers, JD Bertrand, Mike Ciaffoni and CJ Abrams (Baseball) have also found success at the college level.

Won the B2C State Championship at 6U, 7U and 8U.  All the games were won in amazing fashion.  The best thing about this team is the bigger the game was the better they played.

24. McDonough Cougars

McDonough lead by Coach Chad would be runner two times and would become the first team to ever win the B2C from the play-in game in what has been the most competitive state playoff ever.  Every game in that age group was decided by a touchdown or less.
